Penn State frat charged over 19-year-old woman's alcohol use

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - A Penn State University fraternity is facing charges over a woman's alcohol consumption.

The Centre Daily Times reports the 19-year-old woman was taken to a hospital Nov. 11 for alcohol overdose treatment after police found her outside Alpha Sigma Phi's house. They say she was being held up by friends as she went in and out of consciousness.

She later told police she went to the frat party on her birthday and was served about five vodka drinks.

Alpha Sigma Phi was charged with furnishing liquor to a minor.

A message seeking comment from the fraternity's headquarters wasn't immediately returned.

The charges come months after 19-year-old Tim Piazza of Lebanon, New Jersey, died during a night of hazing at another Penn State fraternity. Twenty-six people face charges in his death.
