Tennessee man gets 6 years for death at Trace Adkins concert

HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. - A Tennessee man will serve six years in the death of an Indiana man who was dragged, then run over by an SUV.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports a judge declined to give 45-year-old Billy Jason Carson a probationary sentence Thursday. Carson had entered an Alford plea to vehicular homicide and aggravated-assault charges in 50-year-old Tony Farrell's death during country performer Trace Adkins' show at a 2015 festival.

An Alford plea acknowledges there's enough evidence for a conviction, without admitting guilt.

Carson said a crowd attacked his SUV as he tried to drive away with a friend who'd been punched for allegedly groping women. Farrell's son's statement said Farrell reached through the window to try to stop Carson. Police say Carson admitted intentionally slinging Farrell off the vehicle. Farrell fell and was run over.
