Original Publication Date April 13, 2018 - 5:56 AM

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel has chosen the assistant commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps as its next president.

Gen. Glenn Walters will be the 20th president of the South Carolina military school founded in 1842, replacing a retiring John Rosa. His starting date has not been determined.

Walters is a 1979 Citadel graduate and says he's honoured to be chosen to lead his alma mater. He earned a degree in electrical engineering at the Charleston military school before serving as an infantry officer and a test pilot, with deployments to Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The school announced the choice by its Board of Visitors on Thursday.
