R.L. Stine among winners of Children's Choice Book Awards

NEW YORK - The latest chiller from R.L. Stine and a middle-grade novel with a transgender theme are among this year's winners of the Children's Choice Book Awards.

Seven winners were announced Friday by the Children's Book Council, a non-profit trade association. Stine won in the kindergarten through second-grade category for "The Little Shop of Monsters."

Jennifer Niven's "All the Bright Places" was named best teen novel. It is scheduled to come out as a feature film next year starring Elle Fanning.

Alex Gino was chosen best debut children's author for "George," which tells of a boy who knows inside that he's a girl.

Kate Beaton was named best illustrator for "The Princess and the Pony."

The winners are selected by kids nationwide. The awards were based on just over 200,000 votes online.
