Guardian gives up attempt to force Amish girl in Ohio to resume chemotherapy

TOLEDO, Ohio - Attorneys in Ohio say a court-appointed guardian is dropping her attempt to force an 11-year-old Amish girl with leukemia to resume chemotherapy.

The move comes two months after the girl and her parents fled their home in northeast Ohio to avoid the treatments.

The family has been fighting a hospital in court since the summer after the parents decided to halt the treatments because they were making the girl sick.

The attorney for the guardian tells The Associated Press that she is dropping her efforts because they don't know where the girl is and that it's impossible for the guardian to make any medical decisions for the girl.

Doctors at Akron Children's Hospital say the girl will die if she doesn't restart chemotherapy.
