Police seek ID on man eaten by gators in South Florida canal

SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. - Investigators are trying to identify a man whose body was found in a South Florida canal being eaten by alligators.

Two fishermen came upon the grisly scene Monday on the edge of the Everglades in Southwest Ranches. The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1UgDgEI ) reports the Broward Medical Examiner's office completed an autopsy on Tuesday, but results were inconclusive. And officials are still trying to get fingerprints.

Davie police investigators want to know how the man met his end.

Capt. Dale Engle says they're treating the death as a homicide. The level of decomposition led investigators to believe the body had been in the water for some time.

After the body was discovered, officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission lured the gators away so police could investigate.
