UPDATE: Hwy 33 near Goudie to open shortly

Kelowna RCMP say cleanup on Highway 33 is almost complete. One lane is currently open allowing alternating traffic to pass. Both lanes should be open in the next 15 minutes.

UPDATE: 3:10 p.m. July 16, 2013

Drive B.C. is reporting highway 33 near Goudie Road is still closed both ways. It is not expected to re-open until about 3:30 p.m.

12:45 p.m. July 16, 2013

Police are on the scene of a rollover that happened around 11 a.m. today.

The vehicle hauling a paving machine rolled onto it's side in the sharp curve of Highway 33 near Goudie Road. Oil from one of two 45 gallon drums being hauled spilled onto the highway.

The driver, believed to be in his 50's, was take to Kelowna General Hospital with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved.

The Hazmat team of the Kelowna Fire Department contained the spill to the roadway and is in the process of cleaning it up. The Ministry of the Environment has been advised of the incident.

It's expected the highway will continue to be blocked in both directions until just after 2 p.m. An alternate route is available from Goudie Road.
