Home Depot in Kamloops, B.C., closed due to potentially unstable ground

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Fire officials confirm the Home Depot outlet in Kamloops, B.C., has been closed due to slope instability near the property.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Steve Robinson says the department has not been asked to respond, but it has spoken with management at the store.

Robinson says staff cleared the store and experts are at the scene to make an assessment.

Signs posted outside the say the Home Depot has hired structural engineers to assess the situation.

Company spokesman Paul Berto said Tuesday that closure of the store is proactive, based on "possible ground movement in the surrounding area."

Berto said it's too soon to speculate when the store might reopen. (CHNL, CFJC)
