UN continues to support DiCaprio's work on climate change

A U.N. spokesman has expressed continued support for Leonardo DiCaprio's work as a "Messenger for Peace" for climate change despite an environmental group's demand that he resign over alleged ties to a Malaysian corruption scandal.

Stephane Dujarric said Monday that he understands that DiCaprio's foundation is working with the relevant authorities in the U.S. to resolve the issue.

"We continue to welcome his public work on behalf of climate change," Dujarric said.

Last week, a Swiss rainforest charity demanded that DiCaprio disclose his ties to a Malaysian development company accused of embezzling millions of dollars in state funds.

"We can't save the environment if we fail to stop corruption," Lukas Straumann, director of Bruno Manser Fonds, said in a statement on the organization's website.
