A Kamloops man is one of 15 finalists competing in HGTV's Canada's Handyman Challenge this month.
After a nationwide search, 40-year-old Mark Ulinder will join fellow competitors, including 29-year-old John Rousseau of Summerland, in tackling progressively complicated projects such as hanging wallpaper, building a swinging seat and correctly wiring a three way switch. The final episode airing March 19 includes contractor Mike Holmes on the judges panel.
The prize is $25,000 and the title of Canada's Best Handyman.
Contestants were chosen after presenting judges with their most creative plywood projects, from wooden salmon to full working bicycles. They also competed in skill-testing timed challenges geared to stretching their minds and hands to the limit.
"We were blown away by the caliber of people we met this season, which made it incredibly tough to narrow the competition down to just 15 people," said Canada's Handyman Challenge judge, Scott McGillivray. "The finalists now have to step up their game and prepare for tougher challenges and more critical reviews from us judges."
The first episode of the top 15 challenge airs 10 p.m. Feb. 12 on on HGTV Canada.
Celebrity contractor Mike Holmes will be on the judges panel for the final show in March.
