A trucker who drove a car carrier into a Kamloops home's front yard last year pleaded guilty to one of the three charges he faced last week.

On Nov. 23, Kurpal Singh Khaira, born in 1988, was given a one-year conditional sentence after he fled the scene of the collision, leaving the semi he was driving in the front yard of a Columbia Street home.

The two drunk driving-related charges he faced were stayed when he pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident.

On Oct. 18, 2022, the truck careened off the roadway around 4:20 a.m. It forced three vehicles off the road and damaged at least one more before coming to a stop.

The truck didn't hit any buildings, but spanned two front yards once it came to a stop.

There were no injuries.

One of the yard's damaged by the semi was at a home that had been rebuilt after a house fire and the landscaping had recently been finished.
