Triathlon, pow wow, bathtub races highlight weekend events in South Okanagan

The Super League Triathlon is taking place in Penticton this weekend.

PENTICTON - It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend in the South Okanagan as Penticton plays host to a major triathlon event, the Penticton Indian Band hosts a pow wow and Summerland sets the stage for the annual bathtub races.

The inaugural Super League Triathlon takes place in Penticton this weekend, beginning today, Aug.17 and running through Sunday, Aug.19. The world’s best triathletes compete across unique short course formats.

The Pow Wow Between the Lakes takes place Friday through Sunday at the Outma Sqilx’w Cultural School on the Penticton Indian Band.

It’s the biggest First Nations cultural event in the South Okanagan, a celebration of culture and traditions of the Syilx people. Everyone is welcome, and it costs is $5 per day or $10 for a weekend pass.

Rock the Sun returns to Gyro Park today with another summer, family friendly event.

Husband and wife duo Flint and Feather perform tonight. Live music starts at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m.

The Great Ogopogo Bathtub Race gets underway at the Summerland Yacht Club at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The fundraiser for the South Okanagan SImilkameen Medical Foundation has bathtub racers run 10, two-mile laps in front of Powell Beach Park in Summerland. The event comes with live music, kid’s activities, breakfast in the park and a lunch barbecue.

The Penticton Farmers' Market and the Penticton Downtown Community Markets both run Saturday morning, starting at 8:30 a.m. The Farmer’s Market ends at 1 p.m., the community market runs until 2p.m.

Also running this weekend is the Summerland Sunday Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street.
