VERNON - Work to fix up 27 Street north of Highway 6 in Vernon is about to get underway, and it promises to create some traffic headaches, especially during the morning and afternoon commutes.

The City announced in a media release work will be starting on Tuesday, May 21, on 27 Street between 32 Avenue and Highway 6.

The City says every reasonable effort will be taken to minimize disruption, but motorists should be prepared for delays as traffic may be reduced to a single lane in both directions.

The construction is necessary to increase the life span of the road, the City says. The base repairs, which are necessary before repaving begins, are expected to take approximately five weeks to complete.

Following the base repairs, repaving the road is scheduled to start at the end of September. The City says starting the repaving at the end of September will avoid high volumes of tourist traffic.
