TORONTO - A 10-year-old Toronto boy shot by what appeared to be a stray bullet while he was sleeping in his home is expected to make a full recovery, police said Saturday as they investigated what they called a brazen shooting.
The incident took place in a southeastern neighbourhood (at Blake Street and Boultbee Avenue) just before midnight on Friday.
Police said they were called to reports of shots in the area and found the boy with a bullet wound to the shoulder.
The boy was taken to Sick Kids Hospital in serious but non life-threatening condition, police said.
Sgt. Andy Kitchener said it appears the address was targeted but there is no information to suggest the people inside were the intended targets.
Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
The incident was one of three shootings that took place in Toronto within hours of each other.
The first took place around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, when a man in his twenties suffered life-threatening wounds after being shot in west-end Toronto.
About an hour later, one person, who was known to police, died after a second, separate shooting in a north Toronto neighbourhood.
