A Lillooet man is facing charges after the RCMP found a tiny home that was stolen from a small Fraser Canyon community last month.

Lillooet RCMP officers recovered tens of thousands of dollars-worth of stolen items, including a tiny home that was reported stolen in December from the Boston Bar area, according to an RCMP news release.

On Dec. 28, Boston Bar RCMP officers received a report of a break and enter to a seasonal property located in the 41000 block of the Trans-Canada Highway. A tiny home was also stolen from the property.

The tiny home, which measured eight-feet by 17-feet, with cedar siding and solar panels was mounted on a flat deck trailer.

Boston Bar RCMP shared the description of the stolen tiny home with neighbouring policing jurisdictions but were unable to locate it immediately.

On Dec. 31, the RCMP received a tip a suspect had allegedly attempted to sell them a tiny home matching the description of the one taken. RCMP officers responded to the property of the seller in the Lillooet area where they located the tiny home.

A man associated with the property was taken into police custody, questioned and later release pending further investigation, RCMP said.

Investigators with the Lillooet RCMP returned to the property Jan. 3 with a search warrant, said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for RCMP in the Southeast District, in the press release. They seized additional items allegedly taken from the Boston Bar property.

Police officers also recovered a stolen generator that was taken from the Coldstream area in August 2020.

The RCMP estimates the total value of the stolen property recovered to be more than $80,000.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time with cooperation between Lillooet RCMP, Boston Bar RCMP and Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.

A 48-year-old Lillooet man faces numerous potential charges. He is expected to make his first appearance in Lillooet Provincial Court on March 9.
