Whether you’re in the valleys below or the mountains above, expect to be hammered by rain and, potentially, hail.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch today, June 28, that spans the entirety of the Okanagan, the south Thomson, Nicola, Shuswap and Boundary regions, as well as the mountain highways that connect the Southern Interior.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” reads the alert.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.”

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
