KAMLOOPS - Three people were taken to hospital early this morning after a crash on Highway 5 at River Street in Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release a crash in the area was reported to police shortly before 6 a.m. today, Aug. 24.

A Honda Civic with a male driver and female passenger was heading north on Highway 5 when they noticed they had taken the wrong exit and needed to turn around.

Shelkie says the driver pulled a U-turn in the middle of the highway without checking for traffic behind him.

A man was driving a pickup truck behind the Honda. When the Honda made the U-turn, the pickup wasn't able to stop in time and hit the Honda.

Everyone involved was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right.

The crash closed one lane and backed up traffic this morning.
