Three mountains to open at Sun Peaks this weekend

SUN PEAKS - Thanks to consistent snowfall at Sun Peaks over the past few weeks, three mountains are expected to open this weekend.

Sun Peaks Resort says in a news release that a few thousand skiers are expected to convene on the resort's mountains for opening day on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The opening of three mountains on the season's first day makes for one of the best opening days Sun Peaks Resort has had, according to the release.

Snow has been falling in the area consistently in recent weeks, with 59 centimetres in the past seven days, with more expected to fall in the short term forecast.

"This, combined with the great snowmaking weather through the early part of November, means that an abundance of terrain and run choice will be available to all for opening day," the release states.

Other than the Burfield, every chairlift over all three mountains will be running this Saturday on regular operating hours. The Morrissey Platter will be running, but a decision on the Village Platter and carpets has not yet been made.

Sun Peaks plans to have all the Nordic trails groomed and open as well.

The resort is reminding people to stay off the slopes until the weekend.
