Three drivers busted for excessive speed in one day in Kelowna
Kelowna RCMP seized three vehicles and will hold them for a week in separate incidents today.
The first event happened at 6 a.m. today, July 19, when police, who had just left the RCMP detachment on Clement Avenue, spotted a red 1985 Yamaha motorcycle racing down the road at 103 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, according to an RCMP media release. They gave chase and pulled the 33-year-old male driver over in the detachment's parking lot.
A short time later on Highway 97 near Ellison Lake a 2004 Mazda 3 driven by a 24-year-old male driver with a novice licence was stopped going 135 km/h in the 90 km/h zone.
Later, in the same location, a third vehicle driven by a 20-year-old man was issued a ticket for both excessive speed and having no insurance.

Fines for excessive speeding start at $368 for those going more that 40 km/h over the speed limit and increase to $483 for those going more than 60 km/h over the limit. They also come with three demerit points and the vehicles can be impounded for seven days.
In all three cases, these drivers were issued tickets and had their vehicles impounded. They will also have to pay towing and storage fees.
“Drivers continue to put themselves and others at risk by driving at these speeds on our streets,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release. “These high speeds and complete disregard for public safety is not acceptable.”
