Infant among three dead following collision near Castlegar
An eight-day-old baby along with two adults in their mid-twenties have died following a two-vehicle crash north of Castlegar.
According to a B.C. RCMP media release, the fatal collision took place yesterday, Jan. 16, and involved a passenger car colliding with a pickup truck on Highway 3A in Thrums, about 10 kilometres north of Castlegar.
Police say a 26-year-old man and 25-year-old woman along with an 8-day-old infant were declared deceased on scene. A two-year-old passenger who was in the passenger vehicle survived and was taken to hospital and is expected to recover from their injuries.
The driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck received minor injuries.
"The preliminary investigation suggests the driver of the passenger car maneuvered their vehicle in a way consistent with a U-turn into the path of the pickup truck," the RCMP release says.
The RCMP says Highway 3A was closed for some time as Castlegar RCMP along with B.C. Highway Patrol and the B.C. Coroner Service continued its investigation.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.
