The scent of rose, jasmine and other essential oils hang in the air at Beyond Wrapture Day Spa.

The Kelowna spa is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and owner Debra Pender is just as excited to speak about her business as she was back then, as her three passions are her orchids, dogs and her work.

Feel like Cleopatra at this Kelowna spa'

“I was the first day spa in the City of Kelowna,” she said.

There are several rooms patrons can enjoy. The “Secret Garden” features an ornate wedding kimono which is symbolic of ‘commitment.’

The room is meant for people to relax in, where they can enjoy a cup of tea or lunch after receiving relaxing spa treatments. Couples can find inner peace in the “Tao” room, reflecting “the journey of life,” during their massage. Women can renew in ”Xing” meaning “inner heart essence” and men can regenerate with a massage in “Ming,” meaning “worldly destiny.”

Everything carries special meanings for Pender at her spa. The rooms highlight Egyptian or Asian ornaments and the spa’s popular aromatherapy body wrap is based on the treatment Queen of Egypt Cleopatra experienced daily, Pender said.

Pender's passion for aromatherapy was first sparked while on a vacation in Mexico.

“My body felt so clean and my mind became so clear and transparent, that’s how I fell in love with aromatherapy and spa treatments,” she said. To this day, her original customers still visit and reminisce with her about her first spa location which was out of her home on Richter Street, nicknamed the "Richter House."

Beyond Wrapture’s logo is especially important to Pender. The Egyptian woman is stepping outside of the mandala on the left, representing the courage to leave her comfort zone, while the middle of the logo represents an equal sign. The right triangle of the logo represents the body, mind, and spirit, so the three symbols become “wholeness equals strength.”

You can find Beyond Wrapture next to Coast Hotels at 1171 Harvey Ave where they have been since 2003. For more information and to book a massage esthetics service, visit the spa’s website.
