TORONTO - Canadian "Alias Grace" actress Sarah Gadon is set to make the jump from screen to stage at Toronto's Coal Mine Theatre.

Gadon, who has starred in several David Cronenberg films including 2012's "Cosmopolis," is set to make her theatrical debut in "Yerma," directed by Coal Mine co-founder Diana Bentley.

The adaptation of Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca's tragic tale of a young woman desperate to become a mother comes to Canada after an award-winning original run at London's Old Vic Theatre in 2016.

"Yerma" will premiere in February and have a three-week run.

Also among the highlights of Coal Mine's 2022-2023 season are a remount of 2020 Dora winner "Prophecy Fog," from Canadian multidisciplinary artist Jani Lauzon. The project, a philosophical journey through the Mojave Desert, starts in September.

In November, Coal Mine will put on "The Effect," from U.K. playwright and "Succession" scribe Lucy Prebble, which is about two people who fall in love while taking part in a clinical drug trial.

The season will conclude in May with Leora Morris-directed Canadian premiere of Adam Rapp's "The Sound Inside," which is about the intense bond between a creative writing professor and his student.
