“It’s about communication, and it’s about the client and being in their corner. I have the trades, the tools, the permits and the skills, but if I don’t respect and listen to the client then none of that matters,” says Pilon. “We have to impress on every project no matter what.”

Pilon and his crew are highly focused on quality workmanship and concentrate on high-end custom homes. He collaborates with specialized local trades and stays informed on energy saving technologies and architectural techniques.

“We want our customers to feel confident as they watch their new home come to life,” says Pilon, who grew up in the Yukon for the first 10 years of his life before moving to Salmon Arm with his family.

Pilon has been working in the construction business since his teens and understands the business and the barriers homeowners can face when it comes to home construction and renovation. “I understand what you can and cannot do within budget. People work hard for their money and we aim to get the most value for them.”

Creating a sense of trust with a homeowner is imperative. Pilon has seen many disappointed homeowners over the years due to a builder’s lack of skills, knowledge or dishonesty, and their inability to protect clients’ funds for their project. This is important on every project, but particularly when he’s entrusted with building and creating million dollar-plus homes throughout the Okanagan.

“I went into business on my own because I saw dishonesty and builders cutting corners. For me, my clients are number one. When you’re offering a service and they’re buying it, they are number one.”

Along with Pilon’s high-end new construction and home renovations, Blueport is also a part of the BC Housing Home Adaptations for Independence Program (HAFI). With the aid of the program, Blueport Builders helps empower independent living enabling people to remain in the comfort of their homes for a longer period by making bathrooms safer and kitchens more useable.

The HAFI program is backed by the provincial and federal governments. It offers financial assistance through grants of up to $20,000 for eligible seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. The person applying must meet the eligibility requirements under the guidelines for the HAFI program.
“We have done about 25 of these projects. The renovations are very specific to each client. It would be nice to do about 100 this year,” says Pilon.

All of the HAFI renos have come to him by way of referrals, which say a lot about his team’s approach and attention to detail.

As with any project Blueport takes on, staying on budget and on time is imperative, and those will be communicated with the client throughout the project.
