Temperate week ahead for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS - We can expect temperatures to hover around the freezing mark this week, with temperatures expected to be at or near seasonal normal temperatures in Kamloops.

Environment Canada is calling for daytime high temperatures to be at or just below 0 Celsius this week, with overnight lows expected to reach between -2 C and -4 C. Seasonal normals range from a high of -1 C to a low of -8 C.

Along with those warmer temperatures comes a chance of flurries this evening, Jan. 11, through Tuesday morning and again Tuesday night through Wednesday. The rest of the week is expected to be cloudy.

The near-freezing temperatures this week could play havoc with the roads, especially if precipitation does fall. Drive B.C. is already reporting some sections of compact snow on area highways and slippery sections on Highway 1, the Coquihalla Highway and the Okanagan Connector. Fog is also being reported on some sections of Highway 97 C.

If you have some time off and want to hit up the ski hills this week expect highs ranging from -4 C to -7 C along with slurries beginning tonight and lasting through Thursday at Sun Peaks. Big White and Silver Star will both vary a bit more in temperatures, with highs expected to range from -3 C to -8 C this week, along with at least a chance of flurries every day.

In the backcountry avalanche risk is low at most elevations in the region, with some areas of moderate risk, according to Avalanche Canada. Some elevations are expected to reach a considerable risk by Wednesday though.
