LAKE COUNTRY - A 17-year-old boy was killed when the truck he was driving skidded off the road and down an embankment near Oyama last night.

Lake Country RCMP learned of the single vehicle accident that happened in the 5700 block of Oyama Lake Road shortly after 5 p.m. Police say preliminary findings show the driver was likely travelling too fast and lost control around the switchbacks, skidding around the corner before going over the embankment. Both the driver and his 17-year-old female passenger from Germany were ejected from the vehicle.

The girl suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident and was transported to Kelowna General Hospital in critical condition. She has since been transferred to Vancouver for treatment.

Mounties continue to assist the B.C. Coroners Service in this investigation.
