Taste of jail for Penticton youths involved in early morning high speed hijinks

PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP detained three youths in custody following some high speed driving within the city early this morning.

Cpl. Ted Manchulenko says two 17-year-olds and a 13-year-old were held in Penticton RCMP detachment cells this morning after police took them into custody sometime after 1 a.m., March 28.

The trio were monitored by police as they travelled through the city at high speeds, refusing to stop for police on four separate occasions.

Police did not initiate a chase, but caught up with the 17-year-old driver when he lost control of his vehicle and rolled up on the sidewalk on Carmi Avenue, Manchulenko says.

The driver faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, three counts of flight from police in addition to being handed a three-day immediate roadside prohibition.

Cpl. Manchulenko says the three were given a taste of prison life as they were placed in detachment cells until picked up by their parents who “were not happy with the situation.”
