Suspect found in woods after armed home invasion

SALMON ARM - A 30-year-old man has been arrested by police following what police say was an armed home invasion.

A Salmon Arm RCMP press release says police responded to a report of a home invasion in Tappen B.C., where a male suspect was allegedly carrying a weapon.

The press release says the man broke into the home with a weapon and stole the home owner's vehicle, a white 2017 Hyundai Sante Fe and left a stolen Chevrolet Silverado at the property. Later that night, police responded to a report that the stolen Hyundai Sante FE was parked in the 3600 area of Highway 1. When police arrived at the vehicle they found two weapons in the stolen Hyundai, one of which police suspect was used in the home invasion.

A police service dog and the RCMP Emergency Response Team were called in and the suspect was found in the woods nearby. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect remains in custody and will appear in court today, Sept. 5, for several recommended charges of Criminal Code offences.
