Survey says eggnog the holiday beverage of choice in BC
Not everyone will agree, and it may even spark arguments, but according to a recent survey, British Columbians say egg nog is their holiday beverage of choice.
The Research Co. survey conducted earlier this month found eggnog remains the top choice with 65% of British Columbians calling it their favourite holiday beverage while mulled wine was number one among 43%.
When it comes to Christmas foods, 84% of British Columbians would probably or definitely like turkey to be served at the dinner table, 74% would feel the same about cranberry sauce, along with 68% who say they enjoy Brussels sprouts.
As for the best holiday desserts, 64% said they enjoy plum pudding, 57% like mince pies and 54% prefer plum pudding.
When it comes to season greetings, 64% of British Columbians prefer saying Merry Christmas while 18% like to say Happy Holidays and 18% don’t have a preference or they like both greetings equally.
Nearly half of British Columbians (47%) responded that they would be spending under $500 on gifts, food and decorations this holiday season.
Roughly 49% of British Columbians foresee the holiday season costing more than $500, the second highest rate in Canada after the Maritimes where 58% see themselves spending more than $500. That's down from last year when 64% planned to spend more than $500.
Approximately 58% of those surveyed expect the season to be more fun than stressful, while a 25% of BC residents see it the other way around and 17% are still unsure.
The survey was conducted from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3, among 1,000 Canadian participants and the provincial data was obtained by statistically weighing the results based on Canadian census results.
