Homicide investigators identify woman who plunged from Surrey highrise

SURREY, B.C. - Nineteen-year-old Maurine Arogie has been identified as the Surrey, B.C., woman who fell to her death from a highrise in that Metro Vancouver city.

Investigators with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team have released the victim's name.

They say the death remains suspicious and the case is still very active.

A 23-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after Arogie fell from the 26th floor of the north Surrey building.

The man was released Thursday and charges have not been laid.

Arogie's death, barely an hour after midnight on New Year's Day, marked Surrey's first homicide of 2014 and followed a record-high 25 murders in that city in 2013.
