Supporting our aged loved ones

KAMLOOPS – Are you part of the sandwich generation? The sandwich generation is defined as adults that are caring for aging loved ones and also have their own family to provide for.

Join a Lunch and Learn session on Wednesday, May 6, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Interior Savings Centre. This workshop provides resources on how to support your aging parent or loved one.

In 2013, the City of Kamloops, United Way, Interior Health and Chartwell Retirement Residence combined their efforts to develop a workshop on how to support our aging loved ones. This presentation outlines how individuals can effectively support their loved ones in all areas by being aware of changing dynamics, signs to watch for, health and housing options, community resources, self-care and more.

Participants will receive the Kamloops & Area Seniors’ Quick Guide. With the added support of the Thompson Region Division of Family Practice, SharedCare Partners for Patients and ONCORE Central Services, this guide provides up-to-date resources and contact information in the following areas: Safety, Health, Well-Being Support Services, Food and Dietary Needs, Housing, Transportation, Financial and Legal.

To register, call 250-828-3500 or visit www.kamloops.ca/ezreg with program number 240082. Registration fee is $10. Please bring your own lunch.

For more information, please contact Shona Moore, workshop facilitator at 250-377-4317 or shomo@telus.net.
