Sunshine and some heat return to Okanagan this week

The last week in August is expected to be a pleasant one, weather-wise in the Okanagan, with lots of sunshine and temperatures pushing the 30-degree mark.

You'll need sunscreen and sunglasses for sure this week in the Okanagan with the forecast calling for lots of sunshine and a return to summer-like heat.

Although it's not entirely good weather news in the latest forecast from the weather office with the possibility of some clouds and maybe a shower or two on the upcoming Labour Day long weekend.

“There is a system that might give us some showers, especially in the south towards Penticton,” Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says. “It’s an upper low that is trying to move south of us and is notoriously hard to forecast, so I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in that, but definitely watch for that possibility."

In the Okanagan today, Aug. 26, the forecast calls for sunshine and a high of around 24 Celsius, although Penticton could get a little warmer. The mercury is expected to drop to around 9 C overnight.

Tomorrow we should see sunny skies and a high of 30 C in the valley with a low of 12 C overnight.

The remainder of the week is expected to be sunny and warm as well, with daytime highs pushing toward the 30-degree mark on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows are expected to dip to around 13 C.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud to kick off the Labour Day long weekend on Saturday with a high of 27 C.

Cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of showers are in the forecast for Sunday with a high of 24 C expected.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 25 C and lows of 10 C.
