Sunshine and heat in store for Okanagan this weekend

KELOWNA - A hot and sunny start to the month of June is expected in the Okanagan.

Environment Canada is calling for possible showers and a thunderstorm risk today, May 30, and into tomorrow, but Saturday and Sunday should see lots of sunshine and heat.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud today in the Okanagan with a 40 per cent chance of showers this afternoon along with risk of a thunderstorm, with the wind out of the north at 20 km/h gusting to 40 and up to 70 near thunderstorms. The forecast high today is 30 Celsius.

A 40 per cent chance of showers persists in Kelowna through tonight, along with the risk of a thunderstorm and partly cloudy conditions, with a low of 14 C. For Vernon and Penticton, there is a 30 per cent chance of showers today and tonight.

The air quality rating for Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton is two to four today, considered low to moderate risk for those with respiratory issues.

It should be sunny in the morning tomorrow giving way to a mix of sun and cloud and a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, along with the risk of a thundershower and a high of 30 C.

Penticton’s high tomorrow is expected to be 28 C, with the wind expected to be north at 20 km/h in the afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday should see mostly sunny skies in the valley with a high of 30 C.

On Monday, temperatures are expected to cool off a bit in the Okanagan, with the weather office calling for sunny skies and a high of 26 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 22 C and lows of 8 C.
