Sunny week in store for Kamloops

July in Kamloops looks like it will finish on a sunny and warm note, but one thing that has been missing this year has been extreme heat, as a strong high pressure ridge has yet to build over the city this summer.

KAMLOOPS - There’s little chance of rain in the Kamloops forecast as July winds down and August begins.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says Kamloops will finish July with "fairly normal” temperatures and precipitation. He says there weren’t any extreme daytime highs during the month, with temperatures within a degree or two of normal most days.

“We haven’t seen the building of a strong ridge of high pressure since summer started,” Sekhon says.

A high pressure system expected over the valley this week should bring about some fairly dry weather, except for Wednesday, when a trough might bring a few drops of rain to parts of the region.

In Kamloops today, July 29, it should be sunny with a high of 33 Celsius, with winds becoming east at 20 km/h later this afternoon. Increasing cloudiness overnight is expected with an accompanying low of 16 C.

The clouds should give way to a mix of sun and cloud late Tuesday morning, as winds become southwest at 20 km/h later in the afternoon. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 30 C, with an overnight low of 15 C under clear skies.

Wednesday should be sunny with a high of 31 C and a low of 14 C.

A mix of sun and clouds is expected Thursday with a high of 29 C and a low of 16 C.

Friday should see that the sun and cloud mix continue along with a high of 15 C.

The August long weekend looks like it will get off to a sunny start with a high of 28 C on Saturday and 30 C on Sunday.

Kamloops normally sees a high temperature of 29 C and a low of 14 C this time of year.
