Sunny Easter weekend predicted for Okanagan

The clouds and showers today, April 18, 2019, will give way to sunny skies and near seasonable temperatures on the weekend for the Okanagan.

KELOWNA - Okanagan residents can look forward to a mostly sunny Easter weekend, but not before experiencing a damp Thursday and Friday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says a showery pattern over the Okanagan will persist until late tomorrow afternoon, but after that expect "a great looking weekend." Precipitation over the next two days is expected to be light.

Today, April 18, a few showers are expected in the Okanagan which will end this afternoon and be followed by cloudy conditions. Wind will be southwest at 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon with a 60 per cent chance of showers this evening and after midnight. Winds should calm this evening. It will be mild with a high of 17 Celsius in Kelowna and Vernon and a high of 21 C in Penticton. The mercury will drop to 8 C overnight in the North and Central Okanagan, with a low of 10 C in the South Okanagan.

A 60 per cent chance of showers is forecast for Good Friday tomorrow with north winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 in the afternoon and a high of 15 C.

Saturday and Sunday will be sunny with seasonal temperatures, with a high Saturday of 15 C and 18 C expected on Sunday. Overnight lows will dip to 1 C on Saturday night and 3 C Sunday.

For Easter Monday, expect some clouds to move in with a 30 per cent chance of showers Monday night and a high of 17 C.

Tuesday the sun returns along with a balmy high of 18 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of around 16 C and lows of about 3 C.
