Summer projects set for approval

If approved 26 schools could see improvements in everything from flooring to roofing by the time the doors open for the 2013/2014 school year.

Nearly 70 projects are up for approval, with more than 40 of them involving floor refinishing or replacement. There are also several projects set for the school board office and under general maintenance.

The board of education will look at approving a list of projects next week under the annual facilities grant program as well as the already ministry-approved budget of $3.3 million for the projects.

The $3.3 million is two-thirds capital grant and one-third operating grant. The annual facilities grant is being looked at alongside the annual budget – which cannot be finalized until the beginning of the school year (Sept. 30) when enrolment is considered complete.

Any of the listed projects requiring a public tender process will be initiated upon board approval so the work can take place over the summer.
