KAMLOOPS - Charges against a Kamloops medical marijuana operation have been stayed.
Crown prosecutors announced the decision Wednesday, three years after activist Carl Anderson's North Shore compassion club was raided.
Crown lawyer Lesley-Ann Kilgore told the court it wasn't in the public interest to proceed based on the changing landscape of marijuana laws.
Anderson and business partner Welsey Jenkins had been charged with possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking after Mounties seized 50 plants and 1,500 grams of dried pot.
The man, who had been preparing to defend himself from the charge by launching a constitutional challenge, says he had hoped to take the case to trial and had expected vindication.
His lawyer, Shawn Buckley, says his client was adamant about showing that tests he was running on medical marijuana was making the product more safe.
