KELOWNA — Which is faster: an Audi R8, a Lambourghini, a '66 Corvette... or a police car? Trick question because three of them are no longer on the road.

Police say all three drivers appeared to be drag racing along Harvey Avenue Sunday morning before the RCMP won the race.

On June 15 at about 7:50 a.m. a uniformed officer in a marked car was filling up his gas tank at the corner of Harvey and Spall Road when he saw three cars speeding along Harvey Avenue. He followed them southbound and watched as they made stops followed by abrupt accelerations, appearing to be racing through town. The officer pulled the drivers over near Richter Street.

The drivers told the officer they were on their way to a car show. The cars were impounded for seven days.

The three men, ages 31, 43 and 44 are all from Kelowna. They were ticketed for driving without due care and issued a 15 day driving prohibition.

RCMP continue to investigate and further suspensions may be applied.

Vehicles impounded for street racing may be subject to forfeiture.
