Stolen vehicle crashes while fleeing from Vernon RCMP

September 02, 2020 - 4:14 PM

Three suspects in custody after a stolen vehicle crashed while trying to get away from RCMP in Vernon.

A police officer was on patrol when he noticed a questionable vehicle parked in the parking lot of a business in the 2400 block of 34 Street, Sept. 2 at roughly 1:20 p.m., according to an RCMP news release.

The officer noticed the vehicle had previously been reported as stolen, and on seeing the marked police car, the suspects fled from the parking lot.

"Having recognized the driver, the officer did not pursue the vehicle but advised the other police officers working of the incident," the news release reads. "The officer then heard a crash, and found that the car had crashed into a parked vehicle on 34 Street."

Two occupants fled, and a 28-year-old woman was attested at the scene. The two men, a 43-year-old and a 41-year-old, were taken into custody shortly afterwards.

All three individuals are from the Vernon area and are known to police.  They remain in custody as police officers continue to investigate.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
