TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,748.15 down 53.08 points):

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 44 cents, or 2.96 per cent, at $15.28 on 7,780,292 shares. The insurer reported improved fourth-quarter profit last week despite a 26 per cent decline in revenue.

San Gold Corp. (TSX:SGR). Miner. Down 13.5 cents, or 23.28 per cent, at 44.5 cents on 7,568,666 shares. The gold producer's stock has continued to slide since Thursday and closed at its lowest level since 2005.

BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Down 75 cents, or 4.54 per cent, at $15.76 on 6,619,513 shares. Forbes reported that Home Depot has switched to Apple's iPhone from BlackBerry. The home improvement chain ditched about 10,000 BlackBerry smartphones used by its executives.

Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Up two cents, or 0.40 per cent, at $5 on 6,252,992 shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Unchanged at $4.09 on 4,210,415 shares.

Cameco Corp. (TSX:CCO). Miner. Down 66 cents, or 3.04 per cent, at $21.05 on 4,054,558 shares. The uranium company posted an 83 per cent drop in fourth-quarter profits, largely due to a $168-million writedown on the carrying value of its Kintyre project in Australia and lower income from its uranium business. Its revenue was down one per cent to $958 million.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,196.31 down 9.50 points):

Pinecrest Energy Inc. (TSXV:PRY). Oil and gas explorer. Down nine cents, or 7.32 per cent, at $1.14 on 10,857,251 shares.

Rock Tech Lithium Inc. (TSX:RCK). Metal explorer. Up 1.5 cents, or 60 per cent, at four cents on 7,175,600 shares. The Vancouver-based company announced the resignation of its director without naming a successor and provided an assay update on its Lochaber graphite project in Quebec.

Companies reporting major news:

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (TSX:BAM.A). Asset management. Down eight cents, or 0.21 per cent, at $8.74 on 623,272 shares. The company is buying 19 apartment building in three eastern U.S. states from Babcock and Brown Residential for US$414 million. Most of the 4,892 units included in the deal are concentrated in Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, N.C., but some are also in the neighbouring states of South Carolina and Virginia.

Valener Inc. (TSX:VNR). Utility company investor. Up 13 cents, or 0.80 per cent, at $16.40 on 64,797 shares. First-quarter results improved 75 per cent to $17.5 million, thanks to higher income from its investment in Gaz Metro, Quebec's largest natural gas distributor. Revenue jumped to $622.8 million from $536.6 million, helped by acquisitions and cooler temperatures compared with last year.

WestJet (TSX:WJA). Airline. Down 15 cents, or 0.70 per cent, at $21.24 on 272,508 shares. The company's new Encore regional service will begin with service between Fort St. John, B.C., and the cities of Calgary and Vancouver. The Calgary-based carrier is facing increased competition from Air Canada (TSX:AC.B) which recently announced increased frequencies in Western Canada with its own fleet of Bombardier Q400s, operated by Jazz.
