Standoff with Kamloops RCMP ends peacefully

KAMLOOPS - A standoff between local police and a man in mental distress in the city’s North Shore has ended peacefully.

Kamloops RCMP received a call at 11:45 a.m. yesterday, June 24, of a man in mental distress at his home in the 1200 block of Schubert Drive.

After several hours of negotiating with police, the man finally exited his home at 9 p.m. last night, according to an RCMP media release.

Initially, when police arrived the man refused to come out and threatened violence if officers went into his house, police say.

Kamloops RCMP were joined by the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and maintained a perimeter around the man’s home to ensure the safety of neighbouring residences throughout the day.

No injuries were reported.
