KELOWNA - Okanagan residents can get excited for spring, and not just because of the warm weather. The Okanagan Wine Festivals Society is holding its twenty-third year of spring festivities soon and that's giving some a reason to celebrate.

From May 4 to May 14, local wineries will take part in the festival to mark the start of the unofficial wine season.

“For us, this festival is the unofficial kickoff to the busy summer season,” Lindsay Kelm, Okanagan Wine Festivals Society board member says in a press release. “Not only does it give us the chance to celebrate the new spring releases, but also the opportunity to reconnect with fellow wineries and industry partners to toast the beginning of another successful year.”

More than 80 events are scheduled this year. Floral is a new event featuring an indoor garden party inspired by spring’s fresh blooms.

Twenty Okanagan-based wineries will be taking part in the event. Haida Wild Seafoods, Okanagan Lavender Farm and Nester’s Market are catering.

“Wine lovers around the world are becoming increasingly aware of what the Okanagan has to offer,” Blair Baldwin, general manager of the Okanagan Wine Festivals Society says in the release.

The spring events will begin with the Best of Varietal Wine Awards Reception in Penticton, on Thursday, May 4.
