ENDERBY - The results of voluntary drug tests undergone by Splatsin Nation chief and councillors have all come back negative.

The chief and councillors agreed to undergo three months of testing for illicit drug use and all the results came back clean, according to a Splatsin Nation press release.

"With the legalization of cannabis by the federal government and the ongoing social issues concerning addictions, this council felt very strongly that we need to be transparent and do this drug test," Chief Wayne Christian said in the release. "We wanted to show our people, especially the youth, that we are clean from drugs."

The the drug testing involved analysis of hair samples.

The Splatsin chief and council is one of a small but growing number of Indigenous Leadership Councils that have volunteered for this type of testing, the release says.
