VERNON - A government office in Vernon closed early on Monday after a suspicious package was delivered to the building.

Police were called at around 4:45 p.m. Sept. 12 after a suspicious package was delivered to the Ministry of Children and Families office on 28 Avenue.

A decision was made to close the office for the rest of the day pending an examination of the package by specially trained personnel, Cpl Dan Moskaluk says in a media release issued this afternoon.

RCMP officers from the B.C. RCMP Explosives Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Unit attended on Monday and removed the package that same day.

The office reopened today, and police continue to investigate the package and its origins.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 or remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
