Something to do this weekend: Tour edition
It’s halfway through summer and there are still so many interesting events and tours to check out in Kamloops and the Okanagan, here are just a few of them.
Lake Country’s famous Carr’s Landing Art Tour is open this weekend July 29/30 and the next, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All you need to do is download a map off the website and you’re ready to take this self-directed tour.
There's an abundance of talented artists living in Carr’s Landing in Lake Country, from metal sculptors to authors to painters. Eight artists are showing a variety of different works on this 19th annual tour. Visitors can meet the artists in their private studios and workspaces. Many local wineries offer tastings along the route.
“That’s what makes it fun, meeting the artists,” said artist and organizer Noreen Malmkvist. “There is a lot of excitement, we’re all putting on the final touches. Just get a map and come on out.”

Those who aren’t afraid to get a bit dirty can pick up a ticket to visit seven farms in the Armstrong Spallumcheen area on Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. either by car or bicycle.
Visitors can stop by an alpaca farm, a turkey farm, a flower farm and others to meet the families that run them and learn about farming, food production and sustainability.
“The countryside of Spallumcheen and Armstrong is absolutely beautiful, biking is so nice there too,” said volunteer organizer with Spallumcheen Food Initiative Society Stacia Strohm. “Sparrow Grass flower farm is really neat, they have coffee and snacks set up there.”
Tickets can be purchased online or on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at 3305 Smith Drive at the community garden behind the caboose, all proceeds are going to the creation of a community resource centre. Visitors can also purchase tickets to a long table dinner that night.
Participating farms: Farrago Ranch, Community Garden, Fresh Valley Farms, Sparrow Grass Field & Flower, Rosebank Farms, Pilgrims Produce, BC Brine.
If you want to relax and get out of the heat there are hundreds of works by international renowned artist Geert Maas at the Geert Maas Sculpture Gardens and Gallery on 250 Reynolds road in Kelowna. The Gallery features many new works including dry needle point hand coloured etchings, serigraphy, and wax cut art.
Geert Maas is an internationally acclaimed artist, with his works in prestigious public, corporate and private collections in more than thirty countries. Maas works in two and three dimensions in a variety of media creating sculptures, installations, paintings, reliefs and medallic art.
“We are getting more visitors stopping by, its picking up here,” said Geert Maas. “There are hundreds of works outside to view and even more inside.”
Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. free of charge but donations are welcome.
