VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Whitecaps traded defender Alain Rochat to D.C. United on Thursday for a second-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and a conditional pick in 2016.
Born in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., but raised in Switzerland, Rochat signed with the Whitecaps in August 2010 before spending the remainder of the year on loan with Zurich.
In two-plus seasons with Vancouver, the 30-year-old scored five goals and added three assists in 67 MLS regular-season games. He made one MLS Cup playoff appearance and recorded two assists in nine Canadian Championship matches.
"Alain has been an outstanding professional during his tenure in Vancouver," Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie said in a release. "It is never easy making player personnel moves but when considering all the factors, this is the best move for the club and it is the right time to go in a different direction."
The Whitecaps visit the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night.
