HAMILTON - Canadian-born forward Emery Welshman is returning to Forge FC.

The 29-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., made 13 appearances for the Canadian Premier League champion in its inaugural 2019 season. He had four goals and two assists with Forge while on loan from Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati.

Most recently he spent time in the Israeli first and second divisions with Hapoel Raanana, Ihud Bnei Sakhnin and Hapoel Haifa.

“We are very happy to welcome Emery back to Forge," director of football Costa Smyrniotis said in a statement. “He returns to Hamilton with quality experiences gained internationally, which will prove to be a valuable addition to our squad both on and off the field.”

Eligible to play for Guyana through his parents, Welshman has won 19 international caps with 10 goals and three assists.

A former first-round pick (16th overall) of Toronto FC in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Welshman went on to play for Sigma FC of League 1 Ontario (2014), Real Monarchs of the USL (2015), Real Salt Lake of MLS (2016), Puerto Rico FC of the North American Soccer League (2017) and FC Cincinnati (2018).

The five-foot-11 Welshman made 31 appearances for Cincinnati in all competitions, scoring seven goals and adding seven assists.

Prior to turning pro, Welshman spent two years at Sienna College (2009-10) and two years at Oregon State University (2011-12).
