REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Police have confirmed a man was caught and killed in an avalanche on Boulder Mountain in the West Kootenay.
Const. Lesley Smith says that Revelstoke RCMP and search and rescue crews were dispatched to the area Saturday afternoon.
Smith says a total of three snowmobilers were at the site of the accident, near the Boulder Mountain snowmobile cabin.
The other two people escaped, and appear to be unharmed.
Police and rescue crews were called to the scene at around 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. The mountain was apparently very busy with numerous snowmobilers in the area.
One of the men caught in the avalanche was located unconcious by Search and Rescue Crews, but he later died.
The BC Coroner Service has now taken over jurisdiction of the accident.
