KELOWNA – Two hours after announcing the Canadian Forces Snowbirds would do a surprise fly by above downtown Kelowna today, the Yacht Club says it's not happening.

A media release sent around 11:30 a.m. today, April 4, said as a thank you to the Club for hosting a wedding for one of the team members, Canada’s aerobatic fighter squadron would do a flyby around 1:30 p.m.

Just 15 minutes before the unscheduled event was set to take place, a second release went out to media saying the fly-by would not occur today in front of the Kelowna Yacht Club.

No reason for the cancellation was given, however the Snowbirds will return to the Okanagan Aug. 9 for Peachfest.

— This story was updated at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 to say the fly past had been cancelled.
