Smokers materials cause Kelowna townhouse fire

KELOWNA - A townhouse on Walnut Road in Kelowna caught fire because of “smokers materials,” according to the fire department.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 1 p.m. today after an emergency caller reported smoke coming from the first floor of a townhouse in the 3000 block of Walnut Road.

No one was inside and the fire was quickly put out, Kelowna Fire Department platoon captain Kelly Stephens said in a press release.

The single occupant of the townhouse is in the care of Emergency Support Services, Kelly said, because of extensive damage to the unit.
