Sit-in planned to protest Penticton's $100 fine for sitting on sidewalk

PENTICTON - A social media message making the rounds in Penticton is urging civil disobedience in Nanaimo Square tomorrow.

Chelsea Terry is inviting residents to join her in for a sit-in at Nanaimo Square at 10 a.m. tomorrow, May 25.

“I have no idea if this will work, but I’m done doing nothing,” Terry wrote in a Facebook post, saying she has never been more upset with the direction of the City is going.

“I can’t do it alone,” she says.

Earlier this week, city council approved an amended good neighbour bylaw that prohibits sitting or laying on Penticton’s downtown main streets during summer months.
